The monthly US jobs report, along with the US inflation data (next CPI release: June 10th), are arguably 2 of the most important, regularly-scheduled, data releases out of the world's biggest economy.

Of late, the US jobs market, as well as the broader US economy, appears to be holding up relatively well, despite the fallout from the Iran war.

As the Middle East conflict risks sending global inflation into overdrive, it's the inflation numbers (consumer price index, CPI) that are likely to trigger the greater reaction across financial markets worldwide.

Still, this monthly check-in on the health of the world's biggest economy, via the US nonfarm payrolls, is 

1) US consumers drive world's biggest economy

The US is the biggest economy in the world, and its biggest growth engine = consumers (i.e. people spending money on goods and services).

Hence, more people with more jobs = more income to spend and support US economic growth.

And despite the risks stemming from the Iran war, the US jobs market has appeared resilient thus far.

2) Fed's mandate for "maximum employment"

The Federal Reserve, a.k.a. the Fed, is the world's most influential central bank and has a dual mandate (economic goals to achieve):

However, the Fed's job has become trickier because of the Iran war potentially stoking US inflation.

In short, it remains to be seen how resilient/hurt the US jobs market has been, and whether the Fed has to rush in and quickly cut interest rates while tolerating higher inflation.

Currently, markets predict a 77% chance that the Fed will have to HIKE rates ONCE by end-2026!

That's in stark contrast to expectations at the start of the year, with 2 rate CUTS forecasted for all of 2026.

Here's what economists forecast for this top-tier economic data release:

If so, that would be lower than the blockbuster 115,000 new jobs added in the month prior (April 2026).

If so, 4.3% would match April's jobless rate.

The artificial intelligence boom is driving massive gains in tech stocks.

Hence, investors are pouring money into anything AI-related — and US tech stocks sit at the center of that trade.

Within the Bybit universe, the NAS100 isn't even the best-performing major stock index so far in 2026:

AI-mania is the common driving factor for the above-listed stock markets, driving these indices to record highs!

After all, Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea are home to the companies that build the hardware powering the AI boom: think 

 (+238% ytd) supplying AI memory, and Tokyo Electron (+55% ytd) making chip manufacturing equipment.

So, when AI demand surges, their stock markets surge with it.

For comparison, global stock markets, as measured by the benchmark MSCI ACWI index, have risen "only" +12% year-to-date.

Why other assets may continue lagging stocks:

Iran war → global economy slows → less demand for oil → oil prices move lower.

Note that oil demand in India - the world's 3rd-biggest importer - is already expected to see its lowest levels since the pandemic.

Such prospects may cap oil's gains, barring a rapid re-escalation in US-Iran tensions that keeps the Strait of Hormuz closed for longer.

US stock markets have ignored the below-listed risks so far, though they still warrant a reminder as a responsible note of caution:

Money is chasing growth, and AI-powered stocks and indexes are the most popular growth story in the market right now.

Here's why US stocks are hitting so many new record highs, even outperforming Gold and Bitcoin.

 is currently trading below the psychologically-important $70,000 level.

 is posting its lowest prices since April 7th (nearly 2 months ago), and is down 2.2% so far today.

Yesterday, it fell 3.1% - its biggest one-day drop in over 2 months (since March 27th's 4.3% drop).

Prior to yesterday, BTC had been testing support around its 50-day simple moving average (SMA).

ICYMI: We also initially flagged Bitcoin's drop yesterday (Mon, June 1), on 

 (formerly known as MicroStrategy) is the world's largest corporate Bitcoin holder.

Yesterday (Mon, June 1), Strategy disclosed that it sold about 32 BTC, worth some US$2.5 million last week.

This marked Strategy's first BTC sale since 2022!

To be clear, Strategy's Chairman and Co-founder, 

 had already given markets a heads up just a few weeks ago — during the company's most recent earnings call — about a potential BTC sale before end-2026.

The apparent aim is to sell BTC to fund distributions on its preferred stock.

Also, the amount sold last week is tiny compared to its ~$60 billion BTC stash still in hand.

But the symbolism was huge, and the announcement was enough to deliver a psychological dent into crypto sentiment.

Institutional investors are pulling back fast.

, including a single-day exodus of $483.8 million on Monday — with BlackRock's IBIT alone accounting for $440.3 million of that.

May's total ETF outflows hit $2.4 billion, the worst month of 2026.

ETF outflows began a couple of weeks ago, with Strategy's announcement then adding fuel to the selloff.

Furthermore, US stocks punching up to new record highs may be drawing funds away from cryptos.

3) US-Iran tensions adding selling pressure

A potential ramp-up in US-Iran tensions are rattling risk assets broadly.

Yesterday (Mon, June 1), the Tasmin news agency reported that Iran will stop communicating with the US on peace talks. That report sent Brent soaring back briefly to $100/bbl, while shaking risk sentiment.

DECODE: Higher oil prices fuel fears that global inflation will rise faster which may then force major central banks to raise interest rates. Such an environment (higher inflation + higher rates) makes investors less willing to hold speculative assets like crypto.

BTC's latest drop means that the world's biggest crypto is now seeing a technical correction (down over 10% from recent high).

Also, it has erased more than half of the 38% advance it saw during the 3 months between early-Feb through early-May.
