For nearly two years, Bybit’s Web3 platform has helped unify the worlds of decentralized finance (DeFi) and centralized finance (CeFi) by offering users a seamless, wallet-based decentralized trading experience. Starting in October 2025, Bybit redefines its Web3 offering by introducing direct account-based decentralized trading via Bybit Alpha.

Bybit Alpha isn’t just a rebrand of Bybit Web3; it’s a new trading model in which users can access on-chain opportunities straight from their Unified Trading Account (UTA) without any need to set up wallets or use gas tokens.

This transition will help users enjoy safer, more streamlined and beginner-friendly on-chain trading by leveraging their accounts while enjoying the protections and familiar user interface of the Bybit platform.

Key Takeaways:

  • Bybit Alpha represents a radical transformation of the older Bybit Web3 platform from a decentralized, wallet-based model to a new, beginner-friendly account-based system.

  • Using Bybit Alpha, you can seamlessly access on-chain trading opportunities directly through your Bybit account, without worrying about wallets, gas fee tokens, seed phrases or private keys.

Bybit Web3: Wallet-based model

The original Bybit Web3 platform, unveiled by the company in late 2023, was a significant innovation in the crypto world. It helped leverage the exchange’s interface and security to access on-chain trading opportunities. Users could create decentralized wallets linked to their user accounts to exploit these opportunities.

However, this model favored experienced DeFi users over beginners, as the actual trading and operations had to be carried out through the user’s Web3 wallet, not their Bybit account. The existence of a separate decentralized wallet meant that Bybit users had to manage complex on-chain trading operations, such as seed phrases, private keys and gas fee payments.

Many beginners had to face a relatively high learning curve in adapting to the on-chain experience. In addition, the user also bears many of the risks involved in managing a decentralized wallet.

Bybit Alpha: Account-based model

Starting in October 2025, the Bybit Web3 platform is being rebranded to Bybit Alpha. This is, however, not just a name change: the entire on-chain trading platform offered by Bybit is moving to a totally new operational model. Unlike the old, wallet-based structure, Bybit Alpha allows users to directly engage in decentralized operations using their Unified Trading Account (UTA).

With the direct integration of the user’s UTA, there’s no longer a need to create a decentralized wallet, worry about seed phrases/private keys or set aside funds specifically to cover gas fees. All the on-chain operations in Bybit Alpha are conducted through the user’s UTA, with gas fees automatically calculated and deducted as part of each transaction.

Alpha transactions are settled in four cryptocurrencies: Tether (USDT), USDC (USDC), SOL and Bybit Staked SOL (bbSOL).

The new account-based model provides numerous benefits to beginners and experienced traders alike, including centralized exchange (CEX)–like simplicity, a familiar interface, enhanced security, a user experience that mirrors Spot trading, same-day listing of high-potential tokens curated by Bybit, and integrated asset management for on-chain and CEX-based operations. Many of the risks previously borne solely by users operating their own, noncustodial wallets are now reduced, thanks to the controls and protections provided by Bybit’s custody.

Bybit Alpha minimizes the gap between DeFi and CeFi  so users can conduct on-chain transactions as easily as operating their exchange-based accounts.

Bybit Web3 vs. Bybit Alpha

Bybit Alpha is a complete revamp of Bybit Web3, with its core features redesigned to simplify and optimize users' experience.

While Web3 requires decentralized wallet management, Alpha provides a much simpler and smarter trading experience, without any need to worry about seed phrases, private keys or gas tokens.

Unlike Web3, Alpha allows you to use the balances of your UTA for on-chain operations, as long as these funds are represented in any of the four supported coins: USDT, USDC, SOL and bbSOL. Naturally, if you hold other assets in your account, you can easily swap them to one of the supported coins. The most straightforward way to do so is to trade for the coins on Bybit Alpha directly.

The transaction flow in Alpha is greatly simplified compared to the old Web3 model, with many on-chain operations just a click away.

While Web3 involved a relatively slow manual token-listing process, Alpha features a fast, same-day listing of new tokens. These tokens are also curated by Bybit, ensuring that you have a higher chance of investing in future stars of the market.

The table below summarizes the key differences between the old Web3 platform and the new Alpha model.
