If you’re still using your Bybit Main Account to trade and join trading competitions, it’s time to open a Subaccount now. You can create and link up to 20 Standard Subaccounts to your Main Account, of which four can be used to participate in trading competitions like WSOT and Copy Trading Titans. Besides boosting your potential rewards, having a Subaccount offers many other benefits. Read on to find out why you should start trading with Bybit Subaccounts now.

Key Takeaways:

  • Bybit Subaccount is a mini-account under the Main Account, with its P&L separate from the Main Account's. Most activities that are doable with the Main Account can also be executed using a Subaccount.

  • Some benefits of using a Bybit Subaccount include: Better organization of funds and strategies, streamlined tracking of investments, an extra layer of security, the ability to participate in multiple competitions simultaneously and clearer performance metrics from the competitions.

Bybit Subaccount vs. Main Account: The Differences

Bybit Subaccount is a smaller account that’s tied to the Main Account, and is free to set up and manage. There are two types of Subaccounts: a Standard Subaccount, which you manage on your own, and a Custodial Trading Subaccount that’s handled by a team of professional traders.

A Subaccount functions as a subset of the Main Account, so almost any activity that can be executed in the Main Account can also be performed in the Subaccount. Trading fee discounts applied to the Main Account are also applied to a Subaccount.

However, there are still some distinct differences between the two types of account. The biggest difference is the inability to directly withdraw and deposit funds from/into a Subaccount. Subaccounts also cannot accommodate transfers to the Main Account, while the Main Account supports 2-way transfers between all accounts. In addition, while most trading activities can be executed in a Subaccount, you can only subscribe to Bybit Earn products via your Main Account. Furthermore, unlike the Main Account, a Subaccount cannot be used to join referral programs, or be registered as an Affiliate account.

Previously, Subaccounts couldn’t be used to enter trading competitions, but starting in July 2024 up to four Standard Subaccounts can be linked to join competitions. However, a Subaccount can’t be used to join campaigns and claim rewards from Bybit Rewards Hub, or to receive trading bonuses and coupons.

Since a Subaccount is a separate standalone account, its P&L is kept distinct from the P&L of a Main Account. This segregation has multiple benefits, as outlined below.

Benefits of Using a Bybit Subaccount

You can connect up to 20 Standard Subaccounts and 10 Custodial Trading Subaccounts as an investor, which essentially means that the potential profits you earn will be boosted as compared to simply trading with a single account. This is because the fees remain the same, despite owning several accounts and conducting more trading activities.

Executing more trading activities will also undoubtedly contribute to higher trading volume. While each Subaccount is separate, all Subaccounts are still connected to the Main Account and contribute to the overall trading volume. This can be particularly advantageous for Bybit VIP users, who can attain a higher VIP level more quickly by opening more Subaccounts to achieve a higher trading volume.

Besides increased earning potential, Bybit Subaccount offers you more key benefits — particularly the Standard Subaccount, which you can use to refine your trading skills and participate in competitions.

Keeps Funds and Strategies Organized

When your funds are segregated into different accounts, they’re better organized. Since you can allocate a specific amount of funds into separate accounts, you can manage your portfolio more effectively to experiment with different trading strategies and achieve various goals. Moreover, each Subaccount can be used for different trading strategies and tools, so you won’t have to be concerned about mixing up your trades.

Streamlined Tracking of Investments

Superior organization of funds helps you improve the monitoring of your investments and involvement in various activities. By using Subaccounts, you can easily track your performance for separate activities and calculate your ROI and P&L from each account. This simplifies the process of analyzing gains, losses and overall progress in individual activities, thereby boosting your efficiency in managing your participation.

Extra Layer of Security

Each Subaccount operates independently. Therefore, if one account becomes compromised, such as being liquidated, you still have other accounts to rely on, and the assets in your other Subaccounts remain unaffected. For this reason, having multiple Subaccounts is more secure than trading with all of your assets and activities within one master account, as it reduces the risk of losing all your assets in a single event. Such protection allows you to thoroughly test and explore new trading strategies and tools in different accounts, thereby honing your trading skills at an accelerated rate.

Multiple Event Participation

You can now link up to four Standard Subaccounts to participate in multiple competitions, maximizing your potential rewards. Previously, one user could only participate in one competition at a given time (using their Main Account), thus limiting their ability to maximize their rewards. This could particularly impact potential earnings — especially if a competition with better rewards only appeared after the user had already entered a contest, and both competitions were held during the same period.

Clearer Performance Metrics (For Competition)

By isolating competition activities from your Main Account, you can assess your performance without the interference of daily trading fluctuations. Furthermore, by participating in one competition for each Subaccount, you can better analyze your gains, losses and overall progress specific to each competition. That’s because you can assess the success or failure of your competition participation independent of your Main Account's trading activities, thereby providing a clearer picture of the specific performance of your individual Subaccounts in the given activities.

Closing Thoughts

When you use a Bybit Subaccount to trade, you’re creating more opportunities to earn. Additionally, a Standard Subaccount offers multifold benefits, such as more outlets to test your trading strategies, new trading tools and the ability to participate in multiple competitions simultaneously.
